CCK-1835-12 Elevator Upgrade 2012 Barnhart Building

CCK-1835-12 Elevator Upgrade 2012 Barnhart Building

The basic intent of this project and specification is for the bidder/contractor to provide a fully operational and code compliant renovation, upgrade, and modernization of the two individual elevator systems in the Barnhart Building. The successful bidder/contractor shall bid and construct the project based on, and satisfy all applicable requirements of, current national, state, and local codes and safety regulations including the ASME 17.1 2007 Edition, environmental requirements, and the current requirements of the Kentucky State Elevator Code and Inspection Department. This further includes, whether or not specified, providing all work, equipment, and labor necessary and as required for the specific situations of the elevator system renovation, upgrade, and modernization. All work shall be completed to the Owner’s satisfaction. The bidder/contractor should visit the site and examine the existing site conditions and equipment prior to entering a bid. Contact David Tyler (859-327-2834) for a tour of the site. The bidder/contractor, in his site visit, should carefully examine all elements of the elevator system as to whether to reuse or replace any given element of the system as the Owner’s decision at the time of construction will take precedent as to whether to replace or not. Therefore, for any marginal element the contractor should consider replacement. During the project, unclear information and/or other conflicts may be appealed by either party to the University Purchasing Division for resolution. Should there be any situation or question as to the project requiring a revision of the bid document, specification, or need for explanation, the contractor must contact the Purchasing Division (Leon Roberts at 859-323-6457 or lrobe2@uky.edu) no later than 7 days prior to the bid date. Otherwise, the Owner will not consider change orders or modification of the project because of contractor oversight in the preparation of his bid. In general, the renovation, upgrade, and modernization project includes, but is not limited to: 1. Complete upgrade and modernization of the two individual hydraulic elevator systems (two passenger elevators and one individual freight elevator), 2. Installation and/or Upgrade of the Fireman Service and corridor smoke detection systems, 3. Required electrical work for the elevator systems and the fire alarm system, 4. Replacement of any worn or suspect parts anywhere in either system, and 5. Upgrading of the cars, machine rooms, hoistways, and pits. For maintenance purposes, the successful bidder/contractor shall maintain a Lexington reporting center with at least 3 technicians living within 30 miles of the Lexington Campus. One or all of these service personnel shall be available 24 hours a day for emergency response (within 1 hour) to the Campus.
