A sinkhole has developed above historic mine workings, affecting the property of a local resident. The sinkhole does not provide any access to any wildlife or any airflow to the void below the surface. This project aims to remediate the sinkhole by safely filling and stabilizing the area. Once filled, the disturbed area will be re-soiled and reseeded to restore the landscape and minimize future subsidence risks.
The existing sinkhole area will be excavated to remove unstable material and assess the extent of subsurface voids. The cavity will then be stabilized and filled using polyurethane foam, followed by #2 stone backfill to ensure structural integrity. Once filled, the surface will be restored with topsoil and reseeded, including any additional areas impacted by construction activities. The residential driveway is expected to incur equipment-related damage and will be repaired using bituminous paving as needed.
This project will be renovating the existing Lake Malone State Park Campground, also referred to as LM.
