The Van Lear Sinkhole AMLRP is located in Johnson County, Kentucky at N 37° 46’11’ latitude and W 82° 44′ 48″ longitude near Paintsville, KY. To reach the site from Paintsville, take KY-321 S/ S Mayo Trail approximately 3.5 miles and turn left onto KY-1107. Continue 1 mile and turn right onto KY-302 S. Go 1.5 miles and turn left onto Miller Creek Rd. In about 500′ turn right to stay on Miller Creek Rd. Continue approximately 0.7 mile to the subsidence area.
Project Area:
A subsidence hole has developed in the ditch line along Miller Creek Road. AML plans on widening out the fracture so the mine void can be filled below the fracture. This will be done by hammering the rock. This material will be used to backfill the void. Additional rock will be added to fill above the mine void. The rock will then be grouted to provide a stable base. The rest of the void will be backfilled with rock. A concrete swale ditch will be constructed in the ditch line to facilitate drainage away and across the sinkhole area.
Bituminous and roadway stone bid items are included to repair (in kind) any damage to the roadway.
General:
All disturbed areas will be revegetated according to KY AML standards.
