This project includes the renovation of the former Rowan County Public Library
Building including demolition of existing walls, mechanical and electrical systems and
finishes. New work includes classrooms, office spaces, practice rooms, an exterior
entry canopy and other support spaces for a total building area of 10,300 square feet.
Many of these spaces are acoustically sensitive requiring special treatment of walls,
floors, ceilings and doors. Construction consists of a concrete retaining wall with stairs
and landing, metal stud and gypsum board interior walls and raised floors, interior
finishes include resilient flooring, paint, lay in acoustical tile, spray on acoustical
insulation and porcelain tile. The HVAC system will consist of a split DX with multiple
interior air handling units and exterior condensing units with a rooftop makeup air unit.
Electrical work will include distribution of power from the building entry point throughout
the new facility, communications system and new lighting. Site work is limited to new
sidewalks and landscaping associated with the new entry stair/canopy and along
Bishop Avenue. Exterior work will be coordinated with the work associated with the
First Street streetscape improvements. Add alternate #1 will include the complete roof
tear-off to metal deck and replacement with a 2-ply SBS roof system over rigid
insulation. Add alternate #2 will include wood veneer acoustical doors in lieu of steel
doors.

This project consists of installing a 250 KW, 480/277 volt, three phase, four wire, emergency standby diesel generator with 710 gallon base fuel tank and an 800 amp, four pole, automatic transfer switch (ATS) for the Covington District Six Office located at 421 Buttermilk Pike, Crescent Springs, Kentucky 41017-1637. The generator and ATS will be provided by the Commonwealth of Kentucky through a Master Agreement with Whayne Power Systems. The contractor will furnish and install a concrete pad for the generator and ATS. The generator and ATS will be delivered FOB to the District Six Office. The contract includes unloading and installing the new generator and ATS. The contract also includes removing portions of the existing main distribution switchboard and installing a 112.5 KVA dry type transformer. The new generator will serve all building loads when utility power is lost. The existing underground utility service from padmounted transformer will be rearranged to include the ATS. A short duration outage will be used to cutover to the new service arrangement. Coordination with Duke Energy, Whayne Power Systems, and District Six Office personnel is required. All work will be preformed outside the District Six Office building and in the main electrical/mechanical equipment room. Eighty calendar days will be allowed for the construction. Generator and ATS have been ordered. Experience in the construction of underground electrical systems is required.

The University of Kentucky’s Shively Track, used by the men’s and women’s track and cross country teams, is over 30 years old and needs to be renovated and updated. This project will renovate the existing track and field facility by providing a new track and field surface, field event training areas, spectator seating, spectator amenities (concessions, restrooms, etc.) and equipment storage. The existing facility will be completely demolished and the new sports venue will be constructed to provide a first class venue for track and field events, creating a quality experience for both athletes and spectators and will be easy to access and maintain. The new track will be a nine-lane synthetic surface track, competitive events, and grass infield. An athlete only practice throw area will be developed creating a safety for adjacent spectators and warm-up of student athletes. Additionally, a student athlete area has been developed to accommodate visiting teams. The new design and materials integrated with the adjacent baseball stadium create a synergy for dual use. A new entry plaza is being developed to create an identity for the facility and serves to upgrade the entry into the baseball stadium. Permanent seating is provided for 3,000 spectators divided between the lower level grandstands and the upper grandstands. There are buildings to be constructed as part of the project: Field Storage, Throw Storage, Concessions/Restroom, and meet Adminstration. Typical building materials include concrete foundations and walls, load bearing CMU, brick, and standing seam metal roof.
