Kentucky State Reformatory
Estimate:$ 89,490.00
Kentucky State Reformatory (KSR) is a medium security facility housing about 2,000 adult males and operated by the Kentucky Department of Corrections (DoC). It is situated on a large parcel of land that has three DoC facilities. KSR has a Dining Facility Building (DFB) that includes a large commercial kitchen and dining hall. This project is to install an emergency standby generator at the DFB for use during interruptions to normal power. A 300 KW surplus emergency standby diesel generator from the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, Eastern State Hospital, Lexington, is to be installed on the DFB. The Administration Building (AB), adjacent to the DFB, is fed from the DFB and will therefore also be served by the generator. The generator has already been transported to KSR and stored on site “outside the fence.” This project includes moving the generator from storage to a concrete pad constructed by inmates. This project also includes furnishing and installing a 1,600 ampere, 208/120 volt, service entrance rated, automatic transfer switch in the basement of the DFB. Existing loads have been measured and it has been determined that the 300 KW generator can carry all normal loads from both buildings. A new 1,000 gallon bulk diesel fuel storage tank will be installed next to the generator and permanently plumbed for generator service. A new fuel solenoid will be required.
