City of Georgetown Building Abatement and Demolition FY 2014-15 Project

1. Perform asbestos, lead, and hazardous material investigation

a. Certified inspector required
b. Report shall submitted to City Engineer’s office prior to abatement

2. Perform asbestos, lead, and hazardous material abatement (if required)

a. Abatement shall be performed per all current regulations and standards by a certified remediation expert
b. Prior to abatement, project work area shall be secured by construction fencing.
c. Report stating abatement complete shall be submitted to the City Engineer’s office prior to demolition

3. Perform demolition of structures
a. Work includes: demolishing structures, removing material from the site, hauling, disposing, and any other incidental activities required.
b. In addition, the completed work shall include any recommendations as provided by the Cardno letter dated 9/11/2014 (attached).
c. Contractor is encouraged to salvage building materials to the extent practical.
d. Salvaged materials remain the property of the City of Georgetown.
e. Building and deleterious materials shall be removed from all basement and subgrade areas in preparation for filling.

4. Perform backfill of basement and subgrade areas

a. All work shall be performed in full per the Cardno recommendations letter dated 9/11/2014 (attached).
b. Prior to filling, representative samples of proposed fill materials shall be collected and tested per the Cardno letter. (note the lead time)
c. Contractor shall communicate with Cardno regarding scheduling of tests and inspections.
d. Earthwork shall be graded to drain and rolled with a smooth drum roller.
e. The site shall be then proofrolled where any unsuitably soft subgrade zones shall be undercut until stable soils are encountered and replace with suitable fill
f. The final surface shall be a 6”

Fire Station #1 restroom renovation includes the demolition of the existing restroom with shower and renovation construction for two restrooms with showers on the second floor of the historic fire station. The existing construction is brick veneer on clay tile substrate exterior and bearing walls, wood studs/plaster wall finish, plaster ceiling on wood framing. In general the new finishes will be gypsum board and ceramic tile. DWV piping will extend down to the existing sanitary connection in the basement through a new chase, working with and around the exiting structural system. The new rest rooms will have all new HVAC, plumbing and electrical work. Existing utilities are to be extended to the new location for piping, electric and HVAC.

The project includes construction of a six-story addition to the New Science Building at Eastern Kentucky University. The new Phase 2 wing includes classrooms, teaching laboratories, research laboratories, offices, chemical storage areas, and support spaces totaling approximately 148,058 gross square feet. The first story of the new building will be at-grade, with the sixth floor housing mechanical and electrical equipment only. Sitework includes clearing and site preparation, installation of site utilities, earthwork and excavation, and landscaping work necessary for construction of the new building. The structural system includes drilled piers, spread concrete footings, poured-in-place architectural concrete stair tower and elevator shafts, steel superstructure with sprayed fire-resistive materials, and composite concrete floor slabs on metal decking. Exterior building materials include aluminum curtainwall and storefront framing systems, brick veneer, formed zinc wall panels, and a two-ply SBS-modified membrane roof. Interior materials include polished concrete floors, resinous flooring, carpet tile, ceramic tile, resilient base, painted gypsum board, acoustical ceilings. Specialized building components include one traction service elevator, extensive laboratory casework, and fixed laboratory equipment. The building is fully fire-suppressed, with piped laboratory gases, and includes a variable-air-volume HVAC system. All of the Phase 2 building systems are fed from the central systems in the Phase 1 building. The project also includes installation of an additional chiller in the Phase 1 mechanical room, fit up of approximately 6,575 gross square feet of laboratory space on the first floor of the Phase 1 building, and construction of a new stand-alone one-story greenhouse of approximately 3,806 gross square feet. The project includes five allowances for specialized systems, and one additive alternate for the packaged greenhouse.
