The Work of the Project is defined by the Contract Documents and consists of, but not limited to, the following Phase 1.5 work:
Implementation of traffic control devices includes jersey barriers, signage, and First Street temporary lane re-striping. As a result of closing the existing First Street sidewalk, jersey barriers are to be installed that are intended for safe, temporary pedestrian traffic for the duration of Phase 1 and Phase 2 work. Location of the jersey barriers will require the existing First Street vehicle lanes to be temporarily restriped as part of this project.
Work for this project to begin March 1, 2018. Removal of jersey barriers and signage to occur on March 1, 2020. Upon completion of Phase 2 construction and after all jersey barriers and signage have been removed, First Street will be restriped as part of Phase 2 Building Construction work. Jersey barriers to be maintained for the duration as indicated above.
All work to be coordinated with City Officials and authorities having jurisdiction.

Pipeline installation includes sliplining 1,440 +/- LF of 42-inch welded steel pipe along a segment at the project beginning at Winkler Avenue and heading north along South 3rd Street and along a segment at the project ending at I-65 overpass and heading west along Eastern Parkway. In between these segments the pipeline installation includes 3,400 +/- LF of 42-inch ductile iron water main by open trench method traversing the UL campus across Floyd Street and Brook Street and then parallel to Norfolk Southern Railroad. Also included in the project: open trench installation of 466+/- LF of 12-inch ductile iron water main and appurtenances along South 3rd Street at Eastern Parkway to compete a grid tie; three (3) under crossings with 60″ steel casing/tunnel liner plate by bore and jack at CSX RR, Floyd Street and Norfolk Southern RR, totaling 250 +/- LF; eight (8) distribution and transmission connections; relocation of 160 +/-LF of 15″ through 24″ storm sewers; installation of retaining wall; and safeloading 2,410 +/- LF of 48″cast iron main to be abandoned with flowable fill. The bid also includes installation of three (3) 42-inch gate valves, two (2) 16-inch gate valves and two (2) 12-inch gate valves; implementation of MOT phases and EPSC measures and pavement and ground restoration.

This project will convert an existing maintenance building on the Kentucky Children’s Home campus to be used for welding classes for approximately 4 to 6 students and instructor. Work consists of upgrading existing electrical service to the building. The building will include interior painting, chain link fencing, plumbing and new welding booths furnished and installed by the Contractor. The Owner will furnish welding machines, moveable equipment (grinders, saws, drill press), etc. New electrical receptacles will be required. Existing lights to remain. There will be a new exhaust system. Contractor to construct small concrete pad and chain link enclosure for air compressor furnished by owner, located adjacent to the building.

The elevator shaft addition was constructed in 1983, while the connection addition was constructed in 1965. There is no data for when the original building was constructed but the extents of the original building are not within this project area. There are currently signs of differential settlement within the elevator addition and the adjacent stair well shaft. This project will include excavating the soil next to the south wall of the elevator shaft, and installing 3 micropile adjacent to the concrete stem wall. After the micropiles are installed, a concrete grade will be constructed to connect the existing stem wall construction to the micropiles for support. After the installation of the micropiles and grade beam, the area will be backfilled with appropriate fill per the earthwork specification. After the foundation repair is complete, the rest of the project includes tuck pointing brick veneer, replacing expansion joints in masonry walls and concrete slabs, removing and re-caulking wall to adjacent interfaces, and stabilizing beam bearing pockets.

Contractors are to be aware this is a secured detention facility, consequently control and limited access is absolutely necessary and needs to be accounted for in the daily and weekly work schedules.
