The Kentucky State Police, Post 11, Building Renovations project is being undertaken to extend the usable life of the building and to maintain the weather resistance. The existing roof assembly is a modified bitumen on a single slope, surrounded by parapet walls. The existing scuppers have no crickets to direct the water flow. Scuppers extend beyond the face of the parapet and daylight at the roof level where storm water drops to a concrete splash pad at grade.
The roof will be replaced with a new SBS modified bitumen roof assembly, cover board, and insulation. The building will also receive new scuppers (at new locations), conductor heads, downspouts, metal coping and accessories such as a roof access ladder.
The façade is showing many signs of decay, as there are many visible areas of cracking in the brick and signs of attempted repair with sealant and/or spray foam. The building has exposed steel beams around the façade that are showing signs of early deterioration. The masonry above the steel beams will be removed to install new through-wall flashing and reconstructed from the salvaged masonry. The remaining damaged masonry will be repaired, and the exposed beams are to be cleaned, painted with anti-corrosion paint (exterior and interior). The exposed exterior of the beams are to be covered with an insulation and metal panel wall assembly. The building is also to receive new storefront windows (ballistic Level 3 rating) and masonry infill of the existing garage doors to better accommodate the needs of the user group. Finally, all the existing and repaired masonry is to be painted with breathable, exterior-grade masonry paint.
Demo entrance area including cladding, trims, door, stoop and replace with new.
Demo steps and add new steps, ramp.
Demo wall between the bathroom and the office to renovate the (2) spaces into a new ADA bathroom with new finishes, fixtures & accessories.

In a previous project 2 portals were closed by sealing the entrances with blocks and mortar. One portal was used as a water supply for the local community. An overflow pipe and human access door was placed in the block wall for that portal. Over time the mortar has failed and the portal cannot hold enough water to supply the community.
The abatement planned consists of removing the old wall and pouring a concrete footer approximately 1 foot higher than the bottom of the existing human access door. A new access door and overflow pipe will be installed at this elevation and the remainder of the opening will be sealed again with block and mortar.

The 24019AMLBAML is in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, at 37°17’31.45″N, 87° 5’38.93″W and will reclaim approximately 47.5 acres adversely affected by previous coal mining operations. The project contains 12.7 acres of unstable highwall or unstable slopes. The project consists of eliminating approximately 5.2 acres of mining pits and reclaiming 4600 linear feet of highwall. The soil slopes above the highwall in some areas are unstable and migrating down slope and left unchecked would encroach into the historic cemetery at the church that dates to the
1800’s. The pits will be backfilled with onsite mine spoil material at slopes no steeper than 3:1 with transitions as required. Blasting will not be permitted. The water in the pits will be treated and raised to a pH of 6 or greater prior to pumping for release. The backfill material for eliminating the highwall will be placed with moderate compaction effort in accordance with KYDAML Technical Specifications.

A slide has occurred on the slope behind/beside the citizen’s residence impacting yard drainage, as well as multiple open portals on the bench behind the residence (and upstream). This project will address the slide by stripping the slide material to rock. Two portals immediately upslope will be closed with standard wildlife closures and drainage conducted to the strip to rock area via concrete block tied mat ditches. Drainage from and across the strip to rock area will be routed through an excavated rock ditch to a drop box/head wall at the yard edge. A combination ditch
will also be installed at the toe of the slope to collect drainage, which will flow into the drop box/head wall structure, culvert and standard headwall outlet to the creek. 5 additional portals (partially collapsed) east of the slide area will also be opened, drained and closed with wildlife closures. 40LF of subdrain is included to collect drainage at the portals for discharge into a natural drain. All waste generated by construction activities will be transported to an approved waste area 5.5 miles from the project site. At the waste area, a failing culvert under a section of access road will be replaced to promote hauling to the waste deposition area
