The Joey Tackett Drainage AML Reclamation Project includes approximately 0.3 acre of disturbance at a single work area. Work at the project area consists of the construction of drainage control structures in replacement of an existing system, which was constructed under a previous AML reclamation project, that has become damaged by underground mine subsidence. The previously constructed structures will be removed, and the opening, which has been created by underground mine subsidence and related soil-piping erosion into the underground void, will be sealed with a combination of polyurethane foam and flowable fill and concrete associated
with construction of the replacement drainage control system. The new drainage control structures will consist of a 2’x2’ rectangular concrete ditch that will run immediately adjacent to the Tackett garage/shop structure, terminating into a 24” diameter HDPE culvert immediately above the residential driveway. On the lower side of the driveway, a concrete drop-box will be constructed to facilitate turning of the flow at this point, allow collection of surface water, and serve as a clean-out point in the event of clogging of the culvert. The 24” HPDE culvert will then continue beneath the county road (Steamer Branch Road), and exit onto the hillside immediately adjacent to and below the roadway. A concrete headwall and a quantity of Class III
stone will be utilized at the outlet to prevent erosion. All excess earth from excavations will be placed within the on-site Excess Earth Fill Area. The entire site will be revegetated utilizing the standard AML Residential Seed Mixture. The entire site has been previously disturbed by a combination of coal mining, and construction related to the residence, county road, and previous AML Reclamation efforts. It is possible that some trees measuring over 3” dbh may be disturbed on the steep slope immediately adjacent to the shop/garage structure and on the hillside below Steamer Branch Road. There will be no direct disturbance of any streams. Also, no caves or cave-like structures will be impacted by this project.
