Estimated Length of Project:
(Substantial Completion) + 150 Calendar Days (Final Completion)
This project includes up to approximately 5.5 acres of total disturbance, and consists of
actions to reclaim a landslide threatening to block Peter Fork and close Walters Road with either slide material or overflow/flooding from Peter Fork. Proposed reclamation actions include stripping the unstable landslide area to rock and the installation of subdrain along the contour mine bench located immediately above the landslide in order to collect water from the mine bench and direct it into the stripped area in order to help prevent other portions of the outslope below the bench from becoming destabilized by excessive drainage. All excavated earthen material will be placed in afill area that was previously utilized under the Mike King Slide High
Priority AML Reclamation Project. Up to 240 linear feet of continuous Temporary Low-Water Stream Crossing at the toe of the landslide will be placed, maintained, and removed, and some landslide material that has impinged upon Peter Fork will be removed. The Temporary Low Water Crossing will allow access to the toe of the landslide in order to allow the loading of slide material into trucks for transport to the fill area. Other than the Temporary Low-Water Crossing(s) placed in Peter Fork, this project will not directly disturb any streams. Further, elimination of the landslide will remove a major source of sedimentation from Peter Fork. This project will not address any underground mine openings or disturb any other cave-like habitats. No trees will be disturbed outside of the unstable landslide area. All areas disturbed by this
project will be revegetated by means of the Standard AML Reclamation Seed Mixture. A quantity of Hydromulching/Hydroseeding has been included to address revegetation of suitable portions of the landslide area following excavation. Cover crop is also provided in order to provide quick vegetative cover on any disturbed areas that will go undisturbed for at least two weeks, but not be ready for application of permanent revegetation.
