RFB-183-20 Capitol Annex Freight Elevator

The Capitol Annex Freight Elevator project consists of a renovation of the freight elevator in the Capitol Annex Building in Frankfort, KY. During the previous elevator inspection, it was determined that the elevator could no longer operate at its original capacity of 8000 pounds and speed of 50 feet per minute. The current rated capacity for the freight elevator is 5500 pounds, and partition walls have been built within the elevator cab to reduce the footprint.
The renovation will be required to bring the elevator into compliance with the elevator code, ASME A17.1-2010. The machine is existing to remain, but the motor shall be removed and replaced with an upsized motor to bring the load capacity back to 8000 pounds. The controller and driver shall both be replaced to drive the new motor. All controls and control wiring shall be replaced. The car top inspection station shall be replaced, and new car top guardrails shall be installed. Safeties, guides, governor, ropes, and traveling cable shall be replaced. Project includes maintenance and lubrication of any existing to remain moving parts.
As part of the project, the existing partitions within the elevator cab are to be removed, and the interior of the elevator cab will be recoated. Plumbing work includes installation of a new sump pump and discharge piping. Mechanical work includes a new split system air conditioning unit and related refrigerant piping and condensation piping. As part of an alternate, existing mechanical equipment in the penthouse shall be removed, and through-wall penetrations patched with new masonry. Electrical work includes work necessary for connection of new mechanical unit, sump pump, and controls, as well as modifications to elevator feeder.
