RFB-80-21 Guy Caudill Slide HP

RFB-80-21 Guy Caudill Slide HP

Estimate:
$230,115.00
Estimated Length of Project:
(Substantial Completion) + 120 Calendar Days (Final Completion)

The Guy Caudill Slide is a high priority AML Reclamation Project being impacted by ground movement related to AML-eligible coal mining. An area of observed instability is located behind two previously occupied mobile homes and one uninhabitable recently placed mobile home. The slide and transition zones are approximately 4 acres. The project consists of stripping earthen material to rock and constructing a combination subdrain and rock ditch along an old auger bench above the slide which will discharge into a natural drainage channel. Also included is the reseating of an existing jersey barrier.
This project is located on the Hazard North USGS Quadrangle, North of Hazard. The nearest public road intersection is KY80 and Winter Way. The 911 address is 522 Winter Way, Hazard, KY. The Latitude is 37°18’31″ and the longitude is 83°11’22″.
The project will consist of excavation of material down to rock with transition zones to blend in with the natural topography and construction of a 450LF combination rock ditch and subdrain on an existing pre-law auger bench which will route the drainage into a natural drainage channel. The rock ditch will be constructed with 2’ bottom width. Also included is the reseating of an existing jersey barrier with construction slopes at 1:1 and backfilled with class II backfill. Also included are various culverts as shown on the plan view to facilitate drainage.
The old uninhabitable trailer will be removed from the site and disposed of in an approved manner. The other two trailers will be protected by a debris barrier. A storage building at one of the trailers will be removed and replaced.
All soils/ spoil removed from the site will be hauled approximately 2.4 miles to the Hiner Tipple via KY 80. The Hiner Tipple is a title V processing and loading facility. The material will be dumped in a location as directed by the engineer then graded to a stable configuration. The waste area will be seeded upon completion.
Trees are present within the unstable area of the project. There are no trees within the waste area. Tree disposal is addressed in the bid item for site preparation. Most of the trees are anticipated to be no larger than 3″ DBH.
Construction disturbances will be kept to a minimum by the implementation of standard AML Best Management Practices (BMP’s) which will prevent significant amounts of sediment related to project construction activities from entering the waters of the commonwealth. Silt will be controlled during all phases of reclamation to minimize silt leaving the reclamation area. A silt fence or straw bales will be used. After construction has been competed, all disturbed areas will be promptly revegetated using lime, fertilizer, seed, and mulch.
Bituminous repair is included in the project for repair of Winter Way in case of damage from construction activities from this project.
