This project is the development of a multi-use path in Johnson County and Magoffin County along the former Dawkins Railroad Line. The trail will have an equistrian-friendly crushed aggregate surface. The existing railroad bridges will be repaired and retrofitted with new decking and safety handrails for equistrian, pedistrian, and bicycle use. Stormwater drainage items will be cleaned, modified, and/or replaced to properly drain surface water. Safety signage meetingt the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) guidelines will be placed at trail intersections with public roads. Much of the project is in remote areas and access is limited. Many areas require crossing existing railroad structures to access. The project is a lump sum base bid project with addiitive alternates.
