AMD Abatement Project
Estimate:
$246,553.75
The proposed project (approximately 0.8 acres total) consist of replacing a gabion wall which has deteriorated and fallen into and impeded flow in Pond Creek with non-reinforced concrete block wall with leveling pad. The site is located on KY Hwy. 199 (Pond Creek Road) between the communities of Pinsonfork and McVeigh. Traveling from the Pikeville area, it can be reached following Hwy. 119 to a right turn onto Hwy. 199 and proceeding about 5.8 miles (the highway name will become interchangeable with Pond Creek Road) to the residence on the right (4733 Pond Creek Road). A waste area, approximately 5 acres in size, only part of which is anticipated to be used, is available just off of Hwy. 119, about one mile west of the community of Huddy at 37° 35’ 56.7” N; 82° 17’ 40.2” W. Materials resulting from any tree cutting are not to be placed in the waste area, but are to be chipped on site or otherwise disposed of per the property owner’s wishes. Additional roadway stone is included to maintain access to the waste area.
Two portions of deteriorating gabion adjoining an existing free-standing concrete wall behind the Daniels residence will be replaced with non-reinforced wall, and a length of sheet piling wall is included to hold up additional stream bank (currently supported by lengths of wood) as shown in the plans. A third and longer section of deteriorating gabion, part of which has collapsed into Pond Creek, will also be replaced with non-reinforced concrete block wall. Failed or failing gabions are to be removed, although class II stone rendered may be used on site. A wooden walking bridge behind the Daniels residence accessing across Pond Creek is to be replaced in-kind.
A hazardous portal located roughly 400 feet northwest of the Daniels residence (37° 32’ 39.6” N; 82° 15’ 39.2” W) is to be closed with wildlife access.
