The new 2-story, Educational Alliance Center will be constructed on the north side of the Middlesboro Campus for Southeast KCTC. The base bid building is approximately 27,000sf. LEED certification will be pursued for this project.
The building will include: A Nursing department, an Aviation lab, Assembly areas, Internet café, general and computer classrooms, faculty offices, administrative and supports spaces. The project will also include a 2-stop hydraulic elevator.
The foundation will include a 10-inch thick concrete slab, concrete grade beams supported by auger-cast piles, all steel reinforced. The second floor will be framed with precast concrete planks supported by reinforced masonry walls. The equipment platform will be a composite concrete/metal deck. The roofs steel-framed.
For HVAC, chilled water will be provided by air cooled chillers, HVAC hot water will be provided by gas fire boilers. Classroom and multipurpose areas will be served using fan coil units. Offices and other small areas will be served by a central VAV air handling unit and single duct terminal units with reheat coils. Outside air will be fed to the system using a central dedicated outside air unit.
Existing site infrastructure will be utilized to extend utilities to the new building. The service into the building will be 277/480V/three-phase. The internal distribution system will provide 277/480V/three-phase power to equipment loads, 277V power to lighting loads, and 120V power to receptacle loads. The project will include a fire alarm system, telecommunications systems, and rough-in for Owner-provided AV and security systems.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The Student Center Renovation and Expansion project is a new low rise multi-purpose building addition to
the existing 1938 Student Union building that also incorporates the existing 1924 Alumni Gym into its
footprint located on the Avenue of Champions at South Limestone Street. Including the 1938 and 1924
building floor areas of approximately 100,000 square feet, the completed building will consist of an
approximate total floor area of 378,000 square feet.

The Work of this project consists of site preparation with the complete removal of the existing 1963, 1982
and 2008 additions to the 1938 Student Union Building, including hazardous materials abatement, the relocation and reworking of site utilities; new construction of reinforced concrete foundations of footings
and piers, grade beams and foundation walls, upon which will support structural steel framing with composite floor decks above grade and at-grade slabs on grade; exterior insulated brick masonry veneer, metal cladding, glazed curtain wall fenestration and roofing on metal decking containing clerestory and
sky-lighting features which make up the building envelope; interiors consisting of gypsum and glazed walls, gypsum and acoustical ceilings and other advanced and well-appointed interior finishes that
complete this technologically advanced and secure facility that provides the essential needs of all
University of Kentucky students, faculty and staff. Efficient and sustainable heating, cooling, lighting and
communications systems are incorporated for safety, security, comfort, energy conservation, and ease of
operation.

Bid Package 04 – Audio-Visual and Sitework

In general, Bid Package 04 includes all of the necessary and required work items and activity needed to
provide completely the building’s integrated audio-visual systems in select rooms and in public spaces
throughout the building in the new construction and renovation areas and to provide the Project’s site work of excavation and final grading, site improvements including concrete paving, bituminous-paved parking
lot, sidewalk and plaza pavers, site walls and seat walls, and site accessories. Landscape plantings, sod
work and seeding will complete the sitework portion of this Bid Package.
