PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The project will renovate and expand the UK Research and Education Center at Princeton for the new Grain Center of Excellence. The new Grain Center of Excellence will allow the University to conduct research on intensive agricultural production practices, to study water
quality issues, and to help define the environmental footprint of intensive agriculture. This will
ultimately benefit Kentucky producers by providing new applications and technologies
resulting in increased yields, reduced inputs and higher economic returns.

The existing facility will be expanded by an additional 17,425 square feet and will include a multi-purpose space with large equipment access. Renovations to the existing facility will cover approximately 38,190 square feet and are needed to tie the current facility into the
expansion and ensure that the renovated and expanded facility meets modern safety and energy efficiency standards. This project includes upgrades and replacement of floor tiles,
windows, ceiling tiles and grid, entrances, lighting, HVAC system, fume hoods, fire alarm and roof to the existing structure.

When complete, the new Grain Center of Excellence will include a large multi-purpose space,
seed storage and handling room, seed/plant drying room, seed cold storage room, grinding
room, research laboratories, general storage rooms, updated offices for faculty, staff, and students, food preparation rooms, conference room, smart classrooms, office administration areas, and rest rooms.

This project includes the following Alternates:

The scope of work includes the removal and demolition of two (2) packaged rooftop exhaust units (RTEs) and replacement with new owner furnished units as specified in the design documents and specifications. The state will be direct purchasing equipment to be installed by contractor where the contractor shall be responsible for all labor and materials not included with the purchase of equipment. Roof curbing to remain in place and new units are to set on existing curb. Various architectural shall be incorporated in this scope of work including disassembly and reassembly of screen walls concealing rooftop exhaust units.
The laboratories served by these RTUs shall remain in operation during construction and the contractor shall coordinate with laboratory tenants to make provisions for temporary outage of exhaust in order to ensure hazardous or dangerous chemicals are handled appropriately with the lack of exhaust air.

This project includes the design and construction of a new elementary school with classroom and dormitory space. The building is approximately 16,551 SF Area, single story construction with a mechanical mezzanine and is to achieve LEED Certified status. The mechanical system is a geothermal well field with Energy Recovery Unit and VRF units. The building plumbing piping systems include sanitary waste and vent, domestic cold water, hot water, and hot water recirculation and new plumbing fixtures. Electrical systems include electrical distribution system for normal and emergency power systems, lighting and controls, fire alarm detection and notification systems, security/access control system, data/communication systems and lightning protection. Relocation of existing underground communications conduits in the path of construction will be rerouted and included in the scope of the building construction. Audio/visual notification devices will provided throughout the facility. Sleeping areas will be provided with smoke detection and high intensity visual notification appliances. System will also provide auxiliary “intruder” and “weather” alert signal devices throughout the building. Alert devices are activated by separate manual pull stations The site includes extending new fire protection, domestic water, sanitary sewer, and natural gas to the building. New fire hydrant by the requirements of the local fire department. The building will be 100% protected with water based wet type fire suppression sprinkler system.
