Estimate:
$215,000.00
Estimated Length of Project:
(Substantial Completion) + 120 Calendar Days (Final Completion)
The proposed project consists of a potential disturbance of up to approximately 4.8 acres,
and includes the following reclamation actions:
– Complete excavation of a landslide mass located upslope of and threatens Church
Avenue and the Combs residence.
– Installation of combination rock ditch/subdrains both along the abandoned mine bench
located immediately upslope of the head of the landslide and along the upslope edge of
Church Avenue. The subdrain portion of the combination ditch/drain located along
Church Avenue will be incised a minimum of 1’ into rock in order to maximize
effectiveness.
-Construction of armored (Class II stone and concrete block tied-mat) ditches to carry the
water collected by the combination ditch/drains to an existing natural drainway.
– Installation of a bat-friendly wildlife-accessible portal closure in an abandoned
underground mine opening located on the above-mentioned mine bench.
-Three monuments will be installed immediately downslope from the Combs residence in
order to allow for monitoring of the area for any continued movement following
construction of this project.
– Excess earthen material excavated from the project site will be transported to a nearby
off-site fill area (a portion of a Title-V coal processing/loadout facility in reclamation),
where the material will be spread in a 2’ deep layer and revegetated.
The proposed reclamation actions will not disturb any streams, and implementation of
AML Standard Sediment and Erosion Control Best Management Practices (BMPs) will prevent
the intrusion of sediments disturbed by project-related activities into area streams. All areas will
be revegetated as quickly as possible following completion of disturbance, and cover crop will
be used on any area to remain undisturbed for more than two weeks. Other than the transient disturbances associated with installation of the portal closure, the project will not result in the
disturbance of any cave-like habitats. The disturbance of some trees measuring over 3″ diameter
at breast-height (dbh) is probable as a result of construction of the reinforced ditches, but will be
minimized as much as possible. Outside of residential lawn areas, revegetation will be
completed by means of the AML Standard Reclamation Seed Mixture. Lawn areas will be
seeded with the AML Standard Residential Seed Mixture. Hydromulching and Hydroseeding
are included for revegetation of applicable portions of the excavated landslide area. The
monitoring monuments installed immediately downslope of the residence will be the targets of
high-precision surveying and, along with monitoring of conditions within the Combs residence,
their locations will be monitored with high precision in order to determine whether ground
movement impacting the residence continues following the project. If mine-related instability
continues to impact the Combs residence following this project, a second phase of reclamation
may be necessary in order to protect the residence.
