Menifee County High School Addition and Renovation
The Menifee County High School Addition & Renovation will consist of band, agriculture, media and classroom additions to the existing high school located in Frenchburg, KY. The addition will be approximately 26,000 square feet and will consist of concrete, CMU, brick veneer and EIFS exterior. The roof structure will consist of bar joists, decking, and insulation with EPDM roofing membrane. Site work includes asphalt pavement, concrete sidewalks, site utilities, and landscaping. Interior consists of drywall finishes, custom casework, hollow metal and wood doors, hollow metal frames, door hardware, suspended acoustical ceilings, flooring, painting, specialties and accessories, kitchen equipment, elevator, HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and electrical. The detailed language specific to the bid packages is located in Section 01900 of Volume I of III of this manual.

The Alfred and Linda Smith site is located in Pike County, Kentucky, southeast of Pikeville off of Highway 1460 (Chloe Road) and can be accessed from Vanover Lane. The site consists of a subsidence area likely attributed to a collapsing culvert that carries mine drainage beneath a driveway and barn. The culvert will be replaced in its entirety if it cannot be repaired. The site also has two partially collapsed portals and mine drainage. Work includes two class II closures for the portals using standard AML closures. Heavy mine drainage comes from a mine bench and is already routed into an existing rock lined ditch constructed by an earlier AML project. Subdrains and ditches lined with erosion control blanket will be constructed along the toe of the slope to route mine drainage to an existing ditch. Bituminous pavement repair has been included in the cost estimate to repair driveways and county roads damaged as a consequence of construction. Silt control will be accomplished with hay bales. Excess spoil can be wasted on the mine benches to ensure positive drainage. All areas disturbed during construction will be limed, fertilized, seeded and mulched in accordance with AML standard procedures. Traffic control will be the responsibility of the contractor. Structure removal and replacement, utility relocation, and landscape allowance will be on an as needed basis and will be reimbursed on an actual cost basis. The project includes the renovation and interior fitup of an existing 6,000 SF building. The new use for the building will be for equine reproductive research. Equine Facilities will occupy approx. 2,000 S.F., the balance (4,000 S.F.) will include research work areas, storage and future expansion shell space. The project involves site work including grading, drainage, parking areas, driveways and utility trenching and backfilling. The existing building structure consists of concrete foundation, wood framed exterior walls and roof trusses. The existing metal roof is in good condition and only requires minor repairs/modifications around an existing brick chimney, which requires reparis, re-pointing and flashing. The building envelope will include new windows and doors however; the existing siding and trim will require minor repairs and repainting. Roof overhangs at large end doors will require repairs and new roofing. Interior partitions and walls are wood framed in the equine areas and metal stud and drywall in the balance of the building. Existing exterior walls and attic space enclosing occupied areas require insulation. New plumbing, throughout including rest rooms. New mechanical (HVAC), throughout the occupied areas. New electrical service and new electrical throughout. The project has a list of additive alternates, see appropriate sections of the bid documents.
