DRGWQTC Equalization Basin

Construct a 19 million gallon, earthen, equalization basin as part of a wet weather treatment facility. The project scope requires clearing and grubbing, excavation and hauling of excess material along with the relocation of potable water lines and sludge force mains. This project is partially funded by a grant from the U.S. EPA and therefore subject to federal guidelines as contained in this document. There will be a mandatory pre bid meeting held at the DRG WQTC Administration Building at 11601 Lower River Road, Louisville, KY 40272 on Monday April 18, 2011 at 1:30pm. For the pre bid meeting/site visit, you must wear hard hat, safety vest and safety shoes.

The Work includes removing existing single pane glazing from steel curtain wall system and replacing with insulated glazing units. Existing steel curtain wall frames are to be scraped, cleaned and painted (interior and exterior) as glazing units are replaced. Please note that existing glazing putty in the clerestory windows in the Drill Hall have been found to contain asbestos and will need to abated as part of this Work. Additionally, window sills have been found to contain lead dust. These areas containing lead dust are to be permanently abated through encapsulation as part of the Work. Copies of Hazardous Material surveys are available from the Owner. The Work also includes removing exterior metal spandrel panels and replacing them with prefinished metal composite panels backed with 3/4″ polystyrene insulation board. Interior and exterior touch up painting will be required at areas adjacent to the glazing work. There is also an add alternate described below in Section 1.4 Alternates; Spray Polyurethane Foam Insulation in Drill Hall.

Removing existing insulated translucent fiberglass sandwich panel system (Kalwall) and replacing with new, with color to match existing. Interior touch up painting will be required at areas adjacent to window and Kalwall work. The existing flag pole shall be painted. The Work also includes the removal of some hazardous materials. Copies of Hazardous Materials Reports are available from the Owner. There are additional documents prepared by others that outline this portion of the Work. The Work outlined in these additional documents shall be included in the contract for the Work outlined in this Project Manual. There is also an add alternate described in Special Conditions, Alternates; Paint Drill Hall Ceiling.

The work includes but is not limited to; the renovation of all restrooms include demolition of existing fixtures, toilet partitions, accessories, ceiling systems, select partitions, electrical components and revisions to the HVAC to accommodate the new work. The new work includes new fixtures, floors, walls and accessories, suspended acoustical ceiling system, wall partitions, floor and wall porcelain tile, lighting and electrical and mechanical work. The general demolition includes select existing walls, wall panel systems, associated doors and frames and the installation lf new metal stud and drywall partitions with associated wood doors and frames, including painting or stain as required. Existing walls shall be painted to the extent noted in the finish schedule. The Mechanical portion consists of the removal of 1 of 2 existing boilers and the installation of a new boiler and all associated piping, combustion air intake and exhaust flues and a new gas line to the building. New airflow devices, controls devices and demo work as shown on the drawings. Electrical work includes the replacement of a relay bases lighting control system, and revisions to lighting, power , communications and fire alarm systems.

Montgomery County Rest Area I-64 Westbound

The Montgomery County Rest Area, located west of Exit 110 on I-64, is currently in need of a force main replacement. The existing 3 inch force main, rendered unusable due to sediment and grit buildup, will have to be abandoned and replaced to allow for the Rest Area to be placed back in operation. A majority of the project corridor will be within the existing I-64 Right-of-Way. The remainder of the project corridor will be within the Evans Drive Right-of-Way and an existing 20’ utility easement owned by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Connection to the Mt. Sterling Water and Sewer sanitary sewer system will occur at the same manhole along Evans Drive as the existing force main. The project scope includes installing approximately 7,785 linear feet of 3 inch PVC force main, installing 660 linear feet of 6” PVC force main, construction of a sanitary sewer grinder vault, installation of the grinder, directional drilling beneath Somerset Creek, installation of air release valves, installation of cleanouts, installing force main within existing encasement under I-64, connection to existing sanitary systems, decommissioning all existing air release valve vaults, and conducting all related earthwork and site restoration.

DON HENSLEY SITE is located on Frederick Street from KY 219 in Wallins Kentucky. Latitude: 36°49¿20¿, Longitude: 83°24¿48¿. The existing gabion baskets are being repaired with grout. This will help prevent sand abrasion of the metal wiring that holds the gabion baskets together.

TIMOTHY HENSLEY SITE is located on Farmer Lane from KY 219 in Wallins Kentucky. Latitude: 36°48¿49¿, Longitude: 83°24¿41¿.Existing gabion baskets have failed over the years and will be replaced with concrete gravity retaining walls.

HOMER ROWLETTE SITE is located on Silk Stocking Road from KY 219 in Wallins Kentucky. Latitude: 36°47¿43¿, Longitude: 83°24¿06¿. The existing gabion baskets are being repaired with grout. This will help prevent sand abrasion of the metal wiring that holds the gabion baskets together. For continued project description see Special Conditions.
