a load bearing concrete masonry wall structure with a steel deck and steel joist roof. It
is clad with a brick veneer. It was constructed in 1976-77. The project is primarily a
masonry restoration. The brick veneer was constructed with minimal expansion
capability and has exhibited failures (cracking) associated with the lack of movement
control. Cracked masonry units shall be repaired by removing and replacing face
shells. New expansion joints are to be saw cut into the existing veneer, the cracks are
to be repaired and the entire surface is to be coated with a liquid penetrating sealer.
Existing steel lintels shall be cleaned and painted and seven windows shall be
replaced. In addition to the exterior envelope work, interior CMU wall cracks shall be

The Sharon Tackett Group AML Reclamation Project involves the reclamation of AML
related problems at four sites and one waste area within the Paintsville and Sitka
quadrangles. G.P.S. coordinates for each site are listed below, along with a
description of the problem and proposed construction activities. Mostly, this group
includes open mine portals and related mine drainage issues.
The Douglas Meade site. The problems at this site include two open portals and
associated drainage issues. AML plans to close the portals with wildlife closures. A
combination drain-ditch will be installed on the bench to collect the pooling water and
drain to a 2’ flatbottom class II ditch that will be constructed along the small (existing)
road that provides access to the barn. To help direct any overflow water from the
bench, a 4’ flatbottom rectangular gabion ditch will be installed down the slope from the
bench to the paved road. Both the road-side ditches and the gabion ditch will empty
into an 18” HDPE culvert (which will be installed to replace the existing culvert). Water
will travel under the road and be directed toward the nearby tributary through a 2’
flatbottom class II ditch. There is a gasline close to the construction limits that is not to
be disturbed during construction. Any trees to be removed are less than 5” DBH.
Trees greater than 5” DBH are not to be disturbed. Silt-check fencing and prompt
establishment of vegetation within all distrubed areas will provide sediment control. As
the area to be revetgetated is less than 1 acre, residential seeding will be used. For
continued description, see Special Conditions.
