A security card reader will be installed to allow investigators using the barrier facility a direct access route, minimizing potential exposure to conventional animals in the facility. The existing Edstrom Watchdog monitoring system will be modified to monitor, record, and alarm conditions in the new rooms. The existing CCRB building electronic facilities management system will continue to monitor and alarm ventilation and power systems 24/7. The existing video surveillance and card access protocols and upgrades in place for the CCRB animal facility and the East Biomedical Complex animal facility will continue to be utilized in the renovation area.
The Daryl Walker HP AML Reclamation Project is located in central Perry County, Kentucky at 37°15’15.71″N latitude and 83° 9’45.63″W longitude just east of Hazard KY. The site can be reached by traveling north on KY15 (North Main Street) from downtown Hazard 1.0 mile until KY 476. Travel on KY 476, 0.3 miles until reaching Allais Road. Turn right onto Walker Branch road and travel 1.4 miles until reaching the site. Currently an existing pipe installed in the mid 1980s, is failing and is unable to pass surface runoff; during rain events, water is flowing over the road and residential side yard. To abate this drainage problem, 120 lf of 42” Dia HDPE pipe (with concrete headwall at the inlet) will be installed the entire length of the fill area. The existing failed pipe will be taken out of service once the new pipe is installed. Also a subsidence area (above the failed pipe) will be excavated and backfilled. Straw Bales and Silt fence are proposed for proper silt control. Bid items of roadway stone and bituminous repair is included for “in kind” repairs as needed to facilitate reclamation work. Filter Fabric and geogrid as been included to prevent erosion within the soil backfill. Class II/III backfill will be used as directed for backfilling subsidence areas and erosion control as directed. Grout is included for the outline end of the pipe. All excavated material will be wasted within the construction limits A revegetation bid item is included to revegetate the site/waste areas at the end of construction. A utility relocation bid items are included to replace “in kind” qualifying features as disturbed to facilitate the abatement plan. Any trees greater than 3” in diameter (breast height) will be removed within Oct 15th 2015 to March 31st 2016. No Permits are required for this project. For continued project description see Special Conditions.
