RFB-183-18 Butcher’s Branch Cover & Vegetate

RFB-183-18 Butcher’s Branch Cover & Vegetate

Estimate:
$209,850.00
Estimated Length of Project:
(Substantial Completion) + 240 Calendar Days (Final Completion)

The proposed Butcher Branch Cover & Vegetate (AMD) Abatement Project, approximately 10
acres total, consists of covering poorly vegetated areas and vegetate with borrow material in the
Lewisport-Hawesville area of Hancock County. The site are located in the Tell City Quadrangle.
The site is at 37° 53′ 2.8″ N, 86° 51′ 20.5″ W.
This project entails capping poorly vegetated and barren refuse in the Butch Branch watershed of
Hancock County. We will use an excavator to explore the borrow area and identify the best
suitable material prior to major disturbance. We will incorporate agriculture limestone at
multiple stage of the work. The work will place the material and split the application of
fertilizer, liberally apply limestone, and a cover crop. In the fall the cover crop is tilled under as
a green manure, additional limestone and fertilizer is incorporated with the final seeding. Install
rock checks in the creek to control erosion. Trees that are cleared will be windrowed onsite for
wildlife habitat.
Construction disturbances will be kept to a minimum with a stringently formulated sediment and
erosion control program. Prior to beginning any major earth disturbance (excluding initial site
preparation for access only), all silt control measures will be installed. These include silt traps
and silt barriers (bales & silt fence) at the project site and the waste area. All disturbed areas will
be promptly revegetated at the end of construction using lime, fertilizer, residential or wildlife
seed, and mulch, as necessary. Standard measures will be used for dust control and work hours
will occur during AML’s standard time frame of 7 am to 7 pm Monday-Friday with shorter hours
for “critical” work items. Access to the site is via county roads, residential driveways and yards,
and an existing access road.
