Estimate:
$146,576.25
Estimated Length of Project:
(Substantial Completion) + 90 Calendar Days (Final Completion)
Deborah Ross: To arrive at this site in Boyd County, from Frankfort, take I-64 East to exit #179 (KY 67, Industrial Parkway, Wurtland/Greenup). Exit onto KY 67 heading north and go 0.8 mile. Turn left onto East Park Drive and go 0.5 mile. Turn left onto Straight Creek Road (unmarked, the turn is just before the Cintas parking lot) and go 1.5 miles. The Ross residence is on the hill on the left. It is a tan house with blue shutters. Lat. 38° 22’ 51.0”. Long. 82° 47’ 48.6”.
This complaint filed by Mrs. Ross on Oct 23, 2014, involves drainage problems that have developed over time from a previous AML slide reclamation project completed around 1985.
The drainage affecting the Ross home will be redirected into a newly constructed 8’ concrete block-tied mat ditch 640 feet in length to discharge the flow into the previously constructed gabion lined ditch leading down slope to the road side ditch along Straight Creek Road. There will be a 24” culvert 180 feet in length constructed to flow under the road and then discharge directly into Straight Creek. There will also be a 180 L.F. 8’ ECB ditch constructed to direct surface flow into a new 15” HDPE culvert to discharge into a natural ravine flowing down the slope on the north side of the Ross property.
Silt control methods (bales\fencing) will be installed along the slope parallel to these two ditches and also along the access road to be constructed from Straight Creek Road to the upper work area. Any tree removal required will follow the guidelines as stated on the drawings.
LARRY FERGUSON: To arrive at this site in Boyd County, from Frankfort, take I-64 East to exit #179 (KY 67, Industrial Parkway, Wurtland/Greenup). Exit onto KY 67 heading north and go 0.8 mile. Turn left onto East Park Drive and go 0.5 mile. Turn left onto Straight Creek Road (unmarked, the turn is just before the Cintas parking lot) and go approximately 2 miles. Turn left onto Moore Branch Road and travel 0.4 miles, Larry Ferguson residence will be on the left with slide area immediately behind the residence. N38° 23’ 9.8” W82° 48’ 9.2”.
Mr. Ferguson’s complaint involves a creeping slide located a short distance behind his home. This slide at times has restricted the flow in the small channel that exists between the residence and the slope, causing water to escape the channel and flow onto his property and under his home. Reclamation work at this site will be accomplished by constructing a gabion basket mat 12’ wide and 1’ thick in the channel bed with one basket 3’ high on the yard side, and two baskets 6’ high on the slope side for a length of 145 feet. A small amount of excavation on the slope will be done to accommodate the placement of the baskets, with Class II rock then placed between the baskets and the slope. Excavated material will be wasted on site or if necessary at the Ross project site located on Straight Creek Road nearby. There are two seepage areas on the slope that will be excavated to solid material and then filled with Class II rock. An 8 foot Concrete Block Tied Mat Ditch 64 feet in length will be constructed to catch water from these areas and direct the flow into a natural drain leading down to the stream channel below. Tree removal will follow guidelines as stated on the drawings. Silt control methods will be applied where needed throughout the project site. A temporary “low water crossing” will be constructed if needed.
A Boyd County Site Development Permit is required for the projects.
