With this sponsorship, design and print solutions are provided at no charge that allows the committee to shift their financial resources to other logistics of the day. Lynn Imaging views the Trade Fair as an important event that brings education, technology, latest and greatest best practices to our region’s architects, contractors, design teams and owners.
Q: What are you most excited about at this years AIA CSI Trade Fair?
This year, the Trade Fair has moved to the Kentucky International Conference Center in downtown Louisville. However, in an effort to create more local community involvement, the planning committee has launched its first annual international design ideas competition this year. Announced on August 15th, 2013, the competition calls for design ideas for a new Louisville Children’s Museum at Third Street and Broadway in downtown Louisville. The committee has received over 200 entries from 29 countries. Actual entries will be on display at the Trade Fair, where the winner will be announced at the dinner and awarded the $6,000 first place prize. This competition brings in a jury of professionals and speakers for the day that are some of the top in the country. For example, one of the selected jurors, Scott Melching is a project architect with FXFOWLE, an architectural, interiors, and planning firm with offices in New York and Washington DC. Scott is currently leading several projects for K-12 and higher education institutions, including a new 70,000-square-foot Lower School for Bilkent University in Erzurum, Turkey. Mr. Melching recently finished working on Hunter’s Point Campus, a new 140,000 square-foot school for the New York City School Construction Authority. The project was featured on the cover of Architectural Record’s January, 2014 issue as one of the magazine’s “Schools of the 21st Century.” Mr. Melching is among six presenters lined up for the day who will be talking about the hottest topics affecting design and construction.
