Berea College Deep Green Student Residence

The Berea College Deep Green Residence is a newly constructed 3 story with a partial basement dormitory comprising of approximately 40,250 SF. The project is located just east of Boone Tavern parking lot of Prospect Street currently serving the Anna Smith Residence Hall. Parking will be below the Seabury Center. The project is seeking platinum certification under the 2009 NC version of LEED. The dormitory will provide residence for 120 students and must be completed with building flush out by 6/1/2013. A combination of concrete foundation walls bearing on rock and grade beams will support the load bearing metal studs and structural steel for the slab on metal deck. The roof will be metal seam supported by cold form metal truss and joists. The exterior veneer will be brick. Ceiling finishes will consist of exposed metal deck, acoustical and bead board. Partitions except for a few at the basement will be metal stud and gyp. Most walls will receive wood base, chair rail, and casing. Most floors with be polished concrete except at public areas and restrooms where porcelain and ceramic tiles will be used. A great deal of attention will be required for material selections to verify that LEED credits are being met. This includes but is not limited to local/regional materials, recycled content, certified wood, and low emitting materials. High efficiency fixtures and building automation will insure that energy and atmosphere credits are being met. This includes but is not limited to day lighting, light fixture controls, high volume low amp ceiling fans, photovoltaic and thermal panels on the roof, geothermal heat pump system, dual flush toilets, a building dashboard system to monitor energy use and a gray water collection. Pre-installation meetings will be required to verify that the integrity of the design and associated LEED credit are being met including but not limited to waste management, indoor air quality, building envelope and system commissioning.
